BSD City, 19 Mei 2021 – Sinar Mas Land (SML) through PT Bumi Serpong Damai, Tbk. (BSD) will donate 1,000 tree seeds to support the South Tangerang Environmental Agency’s (BLHD) reforestation program on Sunday (6/16).

“The donation is part of the tenth Green Festival (Festival Hijau) held on a routine basis in BSD, also to commemorate the World Environment Day every June 5,” says SML Director Syukur Lawigena in Tangerang, Thursday.

The tenth Green Festival was held in two places; at BSD City Urban Park in South Tangerang on June 2, 2013, and at Pagedangan Heroes Cemetery in Tangerang Regency, June 9, 2013.

Syukur said BSD would keep educating the public to raise awareness on the importance of managing food ingredients and natural resources wisely.

One cannot see the environmental issues as stand-alone issues, rather those are related to the human behaviors, especially in terms of meeting their needs, says Syukur.

Behavioral changes through altered lifestyles will certainly change the natural and energy resources extraction patterns, hence people need to be encouraged to use sustainable resources, he added.

“The annual BSD City Green Festival is one of Sinar Mas Land’s attempts to ask everyone to actively protect and care for the environment. The Green Festival also shows that Sinar Mas Land really cares about environmental causes such as reforestation, environmental hygiene, floods, global warming, and clean fresh air,” says Syukur.

The tenth BSD City Green Festival was launched in two sessions. The first session at BSD City Urban Park in South Tangerang handed 1,000 tree seeds to the park’s visitors and passersby and held vehicle emissions test, aerobics, and community art fair. South Tangerang Mayor Airin Rachmi Diany was scheduled to come to the event.

Meanwhile, the second session at Pagedangan Heroes Cemetery in Tangerang Regency invited Tangerang Regent Ahmed Zaki Iskandar who would plant the tree seeds at the cemetery with the locals. This second session would also give 1,000 tree seeds to the residents of Tangerang Regency as well as hosting calligraphy and creative bamboo artworks made by Pagedangan people.

The tree seeds, planted and donated by Sinar Mas Land for the community, were of various kinds, such as buni, tamarind, jamblang, charcoal wood, cinnamon, kepel, keben, walnut, kiputri, menteng, mundu, sawo duren, sindur, saputangan, and sawo kecik.

So far, Sinar Mas Land has planted over three million trees at its commercial areas, pedestrian walkways, median strips, parks, and other locations. BSD City even has its own urban park and urban forest. The 2.5-hectare urban park was opened in 2004. It now has at least 60 kinds of plants with over 10,000 trees.

Its urban forest was opened in 2006, covering a nine-hectare wide area, including a two-hectare artificial lake. The urban forest is a home to various ornamental plants, suspension bridge, gazebos, tree house, and mini water flow. It has more than 25,000 trees.
